Helping Kids To Be More Positive

Helping kids to be more positive can sometimes be a big challenge. As parents, we often feel worried when our kids constantly complain or come across as seeing only the negative side of things. It is in these moments where we as parents need to ensure that we refrain from trying to motivate our kids by resorting to toxic positivity. Using genuine optimistic statements might just be what our children need in these moments of negativity. Let’s take a look at some negative and positive statements used to motivate children:
NEGATIVE WAYS TO ENCOURAGE POSITIVITY: | POSITIVE WAYS TO ENCOURAGE POSITIVITY |
---|---|
Negativity will get you nowhere | It is important to find a way to let go. Is there anything I can do to make it easier for you? |
Remember to have good vibes only | No matter what, remember that I will always love you |
Stop crying and frowning it will not help | It is okay to cry, everyone cries sometimes, can I give you a hug? |
Your problems are nothing compared to the many problems other people have | Remember you are never alone, you can ask for help any time |
Forget about it and just think positive thoughts | This is a difficult time for you, do you want to talk about it or do something else with me (e.g. play a game, read a book)? |
